I'm with Chloe - much as I like lambs, I prefer calves and cows :-) I'm looking forward to Harry's blogpost from Balmoral.

About Me & Mine

We are Elizabeth, Peter and Jemima (almost 2). We moved back to Mumbles, Swansea (on the beautiful Gower) when we had Jemima after a long while living on the South Coast. We're loving giving Jemima a taste of the great outdoors, and a love of all things muddy/ sandy/ surf related that we can! Having met and worked as SCUBA instructors in Malaysia many years ago, and both travelled lots for work, Jemima has proved most adaptable to "continent hopping" and enjoys seeing the world!

Favourite place in the world:

Tricky! We're rather spoilt by having the whole of the Gower on our doorstep - Pwll Du beach which you can only reach by foot being a particular favourite! Our other favourite beach is a secret one in Penang, Malaysia - 12 years ago you could only get there by hiking through the jungle for a few hours - now it's part of a National Park and Jemima had a very fun boat trip to get there!

Favourite things to do outdoors:

We have a particular leaning towards water based activities, and we're now including a bit more child friendly surfing along with the diving. We also love any kind of walking - be it a wander along the seafront to our favourite playground, or a great big hike in the Brecon Beacons and beyond. When we can we also fit in a bit of cycling, canoeing (big, open Canadian canoe types) and a lot of camping in our new family sized tent.

No Monkeys, but a Piglet!

Singapore is in a constant state of change – land being reclaimed from the sea, new areas being built – yet some parts have been deliberately left alone, and so the other weekend we headed off to one of the last rural strongholds – the little island of Pulau Ubin.

A Walk in the Park – Just Mind the Snake!

With only the possible chance of an afternoon thunderstorm, we decided to head out to another of Singapore’s National Parks (or four) – we’re slowly trying to work our way through all of them!

Gong xi fa cai! Happy New Year of the Snake!

Chinese New Year is the biggest celebration of the year in Singapore, and Jemima has been enjoying everything going on during the build up in the last few weeks.

A Little Bit Late - But MERRY CHRISTMAS!

For the last 20 years on Boxing Day (this year was the 21st!) we have headed down to one of the fabulous, secluded Gower beaches...

Talking to the Animals...

As well as some fantastic zoos (anyone heard of the brilliant Emmen Zoo? No? If you’re ever in the far North East of Holland go check it out), the Netherlands seems to have little ‘Dierenparks’ everywhere – in town centres, in people’s gardens (usually backing onto a tiny canal) – and outside most rural restaurants/coffee shops.

Flying a Kite!

Written by Elizabeth Vancura on Thursday, 15 November 2012. Posted in South Wales

The much loved pocket kite comes most places with us at the moment, and the beautiful weather over the weekend (well at least one day of it) meant that we headed out to a few of our fantastic Gower beaches to have a play!

The Venice of the North!

Mention to anyone that Mummy used to live in the Netherlands and the usual response is ‘I’ve been to Amsterdam’…. not the same place! Jemima’s family have spent a lot of time right up in the north of the Netherlands – the ‘not particularly visited by outside tourists’ Province of Drenthe (famous for cows and hosting the national motorbike TT).

My Princess Pants!

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were on their recent trip to the Far East the same time as we were in Singapore – we couldn’t really turn down the chance to go wave at the future Prince and Princess of Wales (we’re a patriotic little nation) could we?

Do NOT Feed the Monkeys!

Singapore is often labelled as concrete and boring, but we’ve always found it anything but, and are still finding fascinating things to do all over this little island.

I Go SPLASH!

Written by Elizabeth Vancura on Wednesday, 05 September 2012. Posted in Worldwide

Jemima is back in Singapore – and loving spending time in a very exotic, very hot big city (a world away from our village back in Wales!) – we’ll be putting up as many of her varied adventures as possible over the next few weeks!

Tidally Determined Adventures!

Written by Elizabeth Vancura on Thursday, 02 August 2012. Posted in South Wales

Our second consecutive day of tidally determined beach trips was quite literally 'just down the road'. We decided that we'd head out to Mumbles Lighthouse - the very iconic edge to our village - on the outer of two little islands that make up Mumbles head, both of which are only accessible at low tide.

Britain's Best Rockpool?

Living on the Gower Peninsula we are absolutely spoilt for choice on beaches, both within walking distance and slightly further afield. With Daddy back from his travels for a few days, and the sun finally out, we've made the most of the weekend and had a few beach based adventures!

The Happiest Little Camper!

Written by Elizabeth Vancura on Friday, 06 July 2012. Posted in South Wales

Mummy and Daddy have always camped! We used to run our local Sea Scout group, our local Duke of Edinburgh scheme, our first trip away together was camping in the rainforest – and our honeymoon involved living out of tent whilst working in a dive shop! We had always planned on Jemima enjoying the great outdoors from a tent, but her introduction to camping has been as varied as it’s been fun!!

Good Old Fashioned Bank Holiday!

Written by Elizabeth Vancura on Friday, 08 June 2012. Posted in South Wales

Jemima is a little girl who loves trains! From waving at tube drivers on the London Underground, to building loops for her train set (with a bit of help from Daddy), to riding on the local miniature railway – she gets terribly excited by things that go CHOO CHOO!

From Jungle Trekking to Welsh Rock Pools

Written by Elizabeth Vancura on Tuesday, 22 May 2012. Posted in Worldwide

Jemima's had a busy time the last few months! Starting the New Year in Singapore and Malaysia meant she had her first taste of jungle trekking, and proved she has her Mummy’s stomach for boat trips by falling fast asleep on a choppy trip in the S China Sea – bodes well for her future as a water baby!
