Last Skiing of the Season

Last Skiing of the Season

Spring is well on its way here in Switzerland, so today we set off for our last ski trip of the season. We have skied at our local resort (Flumserberg) almost every weekend since December, but the warmer temperatures mean the snow is getting increasingly slushy and less 'skiable'. The girls have both made major progress this season, and as ever their skiing has improved faster than ours!

Sofie (age 5) was thrilled to finally be tall enough to get herself on and off the chair lift, and enjoyed being faster (and more daring) than her parents.

Sofie skiing

Emily (age 3) felt confident enough to leave the nursery slopes for good, and now the whole family ski together on the 'big mountain'. The girls are fast and fearless, and hurl themselves without a second thought down slopes that leave me wishing I was back on flat ground. Sofie's confidence has rubbed off onto Emily, and there are not many slopes that the pair of them won't try at least once. This season we also tried night skiing for the first time, and we all loved it.

And today as we rode the chair lift we noticed less animal tracks in the snow, and ever increasing patches of green dotted with the first brave Spring flowers. In just a few short weeks we will be back on the same chair lifts, walking down the mountain instead of skiing, and I for one can't wait.

Now all I have to do is get the girls to agree to return their hired ski boots to the sports store!

Sounds like you have the time of your life over there! The family-Sampson here in the UK have just booked our first-ever ski trip this winter to Bettmeralp for Xmas, couldn't wait for the flights to be released!

How exciting, and Christmas is such a great time of year to ski. Lots of new snow but not too cold. I bet it will be magical - just be prepared for the kids to pick it up faster than the adults!!
