Mud Magnet
Living in Italy it would be easy to get caught up in the idea that children should be spotlessly clean, stylishly dressed and wrapped up snugly at even the slightest hint of “aria” (or breeze to you and I).
I have to admit to a little bit of OCD regarding dirt in Arlo’s early days, mostly due to the 3 heartbreaking rounds of IVF it took to create our little mud magnet.
But…children love dirt and Arlo has taught me to relax and let go. So much so, that now I secretly delight in watching other parents gasp in horror as Arlo charges at top speed towards the nearest muddy puddle.
Why worry? Thanks to Little Trekkers his is stylishly dressed, wrapped up snugly when necessary and everything washes beautifully!
So to celebrate mud magnets everywhere, I thought I’d share my favourite recent muddy moment with you. This is Arlo enjoying the squish of mud underfoot on a recent trip to Moors Valley. We had to abandon the shorts early on after an unfortunate but very humorous adventure into a ditch left them so mud clogged that they kept falling down. With hindsight Wellingtons would have perhaps been a more appropriate choice of footwear but the Teva sandals came out of the machine like new and Arlo rather enjoyed the squelch of mud between his toes!

Love it Amy!
Oh my, your post resonated so much with me! It took me *years* to calm down about my girls getting filthy. Probably when I discovered my then-18 month old (now 4) chewing and licking her wellies and shoes like a puppy. Repeatedly :oS I've learned that it's a losing battle trying to keep them even clean-ish. IMO, you're absolutely right that the best antidote to being overly dirt-anxious is just to let them run riot and properly listen to that infectious giggling, and look at those happy wee faces. Well, so long as the washing machine isn't on the blink...!!
