I'm with Chloe - much as I like lambs, I prefer calves and cows :-) I'm looking forward to Harry's blogpost from Balmoral.

Scrambling to Stickle Tarn

Scrambling to Stickle Tarn

During our recent camping trip to the Lake District, we decided to head up to Stickle Tarn from Langdale. I knew that this was a good walk for younger walkers as friends had done this with their families a couple of years ago. It didn’t disappoint!

The path up is steep and rocky but the overall distance to Stickle Tarn is just over 1km. We didn’t have an auspicious start as several breaks were needed to eat sweets, put on sun cream and find sun hats within the first 200m. Once they got going though, they really got going! Oliver and his friend loved the scrambling bits best and coped with them really well. We got to the top in time for a picnic lunch and explored the area around the tarn.

Secretly, I was hoping to persuade Oliver to ascend the additional 250m to one of the Langdale Pikes. He wasn’t having any of it as there were stones to throw in the tarn and ice cream once we’d got back to the car. I reminded myself that the summit will wait for another day.

This is a great walk for families in the Lake District. Our party of children was aged between 2 and 5 and we all agreed that this was one of the most successful walks we’ve done with them – a combination of an interesting path and some time spent in a high mountain environment. Very special!

Sounds like a great family walk! Harry would have been right there with Oliver and the stone throwing - there'd have been no hope of persuading him further, either.

Couldnt agree more, my Oliver would also be in the stone throwing group! We'll have to try that route with my two, Ollie isnt a great walker and we're trying to encourage him to go further.... he much prefers cycling!
