Welsh Daffodil Planting
So I'm a bit late planting our daffs this year - but Mami likes to see them every Spring, so we're back in the race to get them showing their heads by March 1st (competition every year with my grandparents).
My special tips for ensuring your daffs come through:
- Don't buy (or plant) any bulbs that are damaged or feel soft (think of a bad onion!).
- Plant your bulbs two or three bulb depths and about two bulb depths apart from each other. I like planting daffodil bulbs in pots to keep them all together.
- Water bulbs after planting and press the soil firmly around each bulb to avoid air gaps.
- If your bulbs are likely to get cold in their pots, considering covering them with bubble wrap (or similar). If you have rats/mice/eager foxes or the like, chicken wire works well.
- Our compost was really good today - we had lots of wriggly worms in it!
