Bongo Fun
Summer had arrived ............... well maybe not the weather, but light evenings called for a night out in our Bongo camper van. Since we live in such a beautiful place there is no need to travel far so we just drove down the road to a local honey pot 'Loch an Eilein'.
We arrived after most of the dog walkers and tourists had left so parked up on the deserted over flow car park (a grassy field 50 metres from the loch). Rothiemurchas estate run the car park / camping area and charge a minimal fee to camp. Its very basic i.e. just a field but there is a toilet by the loch.
After the initial excitement of helping to set up their bedroom, Teagan and Summer sleep upstairs in the camper and happily play for hours with their toys up there. We then set out for an evening stroll to the loch. As per usual the girls were on their bikes and it didn’t take long before they were splashing around in the water and soaked!
I find the whole camping experience so much fun. Teagan and Summer love exploring and will keep themselves entertained whilst i cook etc. After some food and a game of football hot chocolate was drunk then we headed to bed.
The next day we headed out on my bike to cycle round the loch. It’s a great family bike ride - just a few kms of good quality, mainly flat path. With all our bike rides we always break up the journey with snack breaks, playing in streams and climbing trees. After a good ride the girls definitely deserved an ice cream (it doesn’t matter to them that it’s cold and wet!). After some more time playing in the loch and in the camper we packed up and made the journey home - how nice that its only 15 minutes away.

Looks brilliant - my 2 are desperate for a camper van (we only have a tent).
And it is so nice to read about others who just pop along the road to camp. Our local site is 20 minutes away, and also quite basic, but it makes going camping really accessible and easy.
Made a note of that location - we'll be in that area next week!
My 3 girls love walking round the loch (especially in bilberry season!) and in the 4 years we've been visiting, I've never noticed that you could camp! I must need glasses. And like Sarah, will also put this on our list of places to go camping.

Funny, mine want a camper too particularly after we hired one in Australia when our eldest was 1 and also after we stayed in Grannies caravan when back in the UK for a holiday. It is amazing how children love to explore and will just play for hours and mine occupy themselves so much better like this than they do just at home.
