Bubblemakers Go to the Fort
Duncannon Fort is the focal point of the harbour village of Duncannon. The fort houses a maritime museum & although we didn't go in as the children are too small to appreciate it, the fort is visible from nearly all points in the village and at the harbour. There is also a working lighthouse within the fort and is one of the oldest of its kind in Ireland.
One of the other main attractions is the beach. It’s a fabulous beach with safe, shallow swimming. Even on a bad day, it's a super spot for a bracing sea walk. A small playground is at the south end of the beach and the fort, village and harbour at the north end.
Apparently there is a 17th century wreck visible close to the harbour walls depending on the tidal conditions - but I have yet to see it from shore.
The whole place is child friendly and great food to be had - even the local fish & chip shop was the best I've had in a long time, sitting outdoors on the beach with the view up to fort made it even better!
