Let Them Eat Cake

Let Them Eat Cake

We have a selection of fruit bushes at the end of the garden and every morning when we let Jarvis out we go and pick some raspberries. Most mornings we have eaten what we have collected by the time we reach the back door but if we’re lucky we sometimes have enough to have with our weetabix. With Daddy away with work a strange phenomenon had occurred, even after gorging ourselves over breakfast we still had some to spare.

Smush!

We really didn’t want them to go to waste and after another wet and soggy walk we decided a morning indoors to dry off was called for. We had a quick search of the internet for some inspiration and our favourite cookery website - http://www.mydaddycooks.com/ came up trumps with a delicious sounding apple and raspberry cake recipe. A quick look through the cupboards confirmed we had all the ingredients, so we were all set to make Daddy a welcome home cake. James did a fantastic job of mixing and managed not to eat too much as he went along. Though I’m not sure with two more teeth on the way he did such a good job of avoiding slobbering in the bowl.

Yummy!

The cake looked and smelled delicious. We tried really hard to resist eating any so it still looked nice for Daddy’s return tomorrow but we eventually gave into temptation – well we needed to check it tasted as good as it smelled! Jarvis took up his usual position, right under the highchair as James tucked into his slice. He was out of luck today; it really was too good to waste. It was a great way to spend a rainy morning and hopefully there should still be some left for Daddy tomorrow. What are everybody else’s favourite rainy day activities?

We made play dough today but your cake looks way more tasty (although Chloe still felt the need to sample the play dough).
Maybe James' Dad will try to resist scoffing so many raspberries on the way to the back door, if this is the result - hope he enjoyed his cake!

That looks fab! Daddy is a lucky man! I love baking with Ruby but we haven't done any for a couple of weeks - you've inspired me to get the ingredients out.
