Rope Swings and Tree Houses
Our neighbours came home the other weekend to find us having a family meeting in one of our big trees at the front of our house. The girls love playing outdoors so much and although we don't have a big garden we have been trying to make it as user friendly as possible at each age that the girls reach.
This weekend we changed the plastic swing we have to two rope swings. Daddy sawed a couple of pieces of wood long enough for the girls to sit on and drilled a big hole in the middle and then Mummy sanded them down so no little legs would get splinters. Push the rope or similar through the hole and hey presto!!....Two very happy little girls!
Next we moved into the front garden. We have two big trees called Pohutakawas. They are known as New Zealand’s Christmas tree because they flower with an abundance of red flowers at approximately Christmas time each year. Well, our trees have some great low branches and its easy to climb up one level but then the girls at nearly 3 and 4 get a bit stuck....so we made some platforms for them to climb up to and sit on......and so up they went and insisted that Mummy and Daddy join them too.
They had some friends around the following week and couldn't wait to take them up into their new playground!

Brilliant ideas Joanne. We also have a smallish garden, but I don't think you actually need a huge space for it to be fun and adventure filled for kids.
Although I am now envious of your beautiful big trees....
