The Fishing Was Good, it was the Catching that was Bad!

The Fishing Was Good, it was the Catching that was Bad!

One good thing about a wet and overcast summer would be the fact that it’s great for fishing! After seeing several friends posting pictures of delicious looking trout on Facebook, thinking they are having some sort of competition on who catches the largest fish, we decided to take on the challenge!

It was a chilly day with wind from the north. We snuck out between the showers dressed up in Spotty Otter waterproof dungarees and a fleece jacket. Those dungarees are just perfect for going to the lake on a summer’s day, just in case the little one gets a little too excited about the water everywhere!

Across the road from where we live, there is a lovely little bay with a beach. Nearby there is always a fishing net out, so chances of a good catch!

Mum selected the lure carefully: copper on a day like today is always a safe bet. While mum cast the line, Tiarnan went exploring the tiny little stream nearby. Having a toddler by the lake and trying to fish at the same time is not the easiest thing in the world, it adds excitement to the sport of fishing that’s for sure!

crawling down the pipe

It did not take many minutes before Tiarnan had climbed to the top of the stream, over what must be like giant rocks for him, and started to explore the pipeline on top of it! A few more casts, and all of a sudden only a bum sticking out of the pipeline! It was time to give up the challenge and head home before things got totally out of control! No fish this time around, but we are sure to be lucky next time. Coincidently, our fishing keen friend posted on Facebook the same night: “You do not catch fish on a northerly wind!”

catch of the day

Ahh – so our poor result had nothing to do with the bum sticking out of the pipe ;-)

    Tiarnan

I am so jealous of you going fishing. Even though you did not catch any fish it looks and sounds like you had lots of things to explore and had fun. Good job Daddy caught you before you went too far down the pipe and had to 'fish' you out. Better luck next time with the fishing Tiarnan and perhaps you can let me in on the secret of what wind direction I should be fishing in. It seems of late , it's always a northerly wind, or at least that is my excuse for not catching anything.

Let me know when you land the big one Tiarnan.

    Love Aisling
