Belladrum - a family friendly festival

Belladrum or the Tartan heart festival, based near Inverness.  It bills itself as a family friendly festival and it always delivers. This year had a science fiction theme, so the boys dressed appropriately :) [caption id="attachment_7371" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Mini Jaws at Belladrum[/caption] This year there were some bigger than normal names appearing (Lewis Capaldi, Jess Glynn) and the festival was considerably more crowded.  However, in my mind, still a great one to introduce kids to. Followed with an evening of music listening.  This year we stayed out until 9 on the first night 10 on the second and until the fireworks went off on the last night.   [caption id="attachment_7367" align="aligncenter" width="300"] BMX jumping on a big ramp[/caption] This year we had great weather and saw some fab acts, Team Extreme a bmx, skating, in-line skate and scooter show were a big hit.  Especially when the kids got to have a shot after the show. [caption id="attachment_7362" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Getting to try the BMX ramp at Belladrum[/caption] There were plenty of entertainments walking about as well as some super science shows. We all loved Professor Pumpernickel’s cheeky sense of humour, making learning fun.  The Fun Box as always was a great hit for the boys, although at 7 and 9, I’m not sure for how much longer! They always make us laugh. [caption id="attachment_7368" align="aligncenter" width="300"] What are they? Entertainment at Belladrum[/caption]   The music was fab this year.  I still think one of our favorites is Colonel Mustard and the Dijon 5 and their Cross the Road song, a definite to be in the thick of the area.  They are a bunch of high energy musicians with catchy tunes and follow along motions, a must listen to if you ever get the chance (go on Google them) [caption id="attachment_7364" align="aligncenter" width="282"] Listening to music at Belladrum[/caption]   There were lots of other throwbacks to our youth with Dodgy and Johnny Marr playing. As well as lots of other bands that I had not heard of before.   The main headline acts of Lewis Capaldi and Jess Glynn were at max capacity, so much that we took the boys out of the main arena for Lewis Capaldi and found another slightly less crowded area to watch Jess Glynn from, musically they were both brilliant. [caption id="attachment_7357" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Listening to Jess Glynn at Belladrum[/caption]   The evenings were topped off by a wander home, sometimes via the crepe stand or the swings.  But all ended back at our van, cozying up in our sleeping bags ready to rest well to enjoy the next day. [caption id="attachment_7366" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Night time swings at Belladrum[/caption]   We were gifted a Vango Nitestar junior sleep bag to try, test out and review. This was the first opportunity that we had to try it out and comments such as ‘toasty’, ‘snugly’ and ‘best sleep ever’ were heard from the wee one.  Mum and dad like the full length zip and draw cord for ventilation when it is hot and wrapping up when it is cooler.  The warmth of the sleeping bag seems great so far. We will use it over the autumn and review again later.  It comes with a handy stuff sack that can squish the bag down quite small to fit into bags for travelling, again, will test further on a specific camping trip. Overall we think it is a fab piece of kit and have enjoyed using it so far.  It certainly helped the wee one to sleep well following the exertions of Belladrum.
