Some people feel the rain...our baby doesn’t

When you look out of the window on a wet dreary day sometimes it is difficult to pull yourself out from under your Duvet; but if you manage to pull yourself outside you always feel better for it. I am currently on maternity leave looking after the new addition to the family Jasper the Dude. He was born in July 2017 and is already a lover of being outside (although he does have a habbit of sleeping through a good view). On a wet Monday in January my husband Alex had a rare weekday off so we headed out despite the torrential rain.

On the drive out we questioned our decision but with the with the well know saying in our heads “there is no such thing as bad weather just unsuitable clothing” we pressed on. We decided to do a woodland walk as we thought it would offer us some protection so headed to the woods sandwiched between Winhill and Ladybower reservoir in the Peak District. We are lucky enough to have a van with a tailgate that pops up acting as a built in rain cover when we are getting Jasper ready in his carrier.

When we arrived it was beautifully misty and we thought the clouds were lifting. We love Ladybower, it’s so close to our city and really is beautiful. We walked out across the dam and up into the woods. We had never seen it so muddy. The paths became mild torrents meandering down the hill. We pressed on as the little man seemed so excited to be outside all wrapped up and cosy in his carrier. The rain was still pouring down but as we turned a corner the woodland parted and we got an epic view out across the water. Moments like this make us happy - It is always worth heading outside whatever the weather. We briskly headed back to the car as we were both starting to feel the brunt of the storm and were worried about the little dude. When we got back to the car though we realised we needn’t have worried as he was happy as a lamb and dry as a bone. With this revelation we headed into Hathersage for a well-earned chip butty.
